About the Libertarian Philosophy

Libertarians believe individuals should be free to live however they choose as long as they don't interfere with the rights of others. These rights are the individual rights to life, liberty and property. Libertarians oppose initiation of force in violation of those rights, even when the violation is performed by a government. Some government is necessary, to protect against crimes such as murder, theft, and fraud. However, government should be held to the same standards of right and wrong as individuals. For this reason government should not interfere with voluntary relations among individuals, nor should people be forced to sacrifice their lives for others. Only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized.

Libertarians are practical people. All too often, it is proven that government doesn't work. Incumbents see the solution to government's problems as more government, thereby preserving their own political power.  Like most people, libertarians want to see their fellow mankind live successful, fulfilling lives. The difference is that libertarians believe that free choice, open markets and private initiatives are better than legislated morality, centrally planned economies, and coerced charity. When given the opportunity, individuals are able to look out for their interests. Libertarians want to end the drug war, protect privacy and free speech, promote free trade, and reduce the size of government. Libertarians believe that with increased freedom there would be practical benefits including reduced crime, lower taxes, and a cleaner environment.
